In an effort to increase public awareness, VIU?s new Fraud and Ethics Research and Education Centre ?” headed by Oltmann ?” will co-host a public workshop with the Greater Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce. The Many Faces of Fraud ?” Managing your Fraud Risk takes place at VIU?s Nanaimo campus March 4 and features fraud prevention and detection experts who will present seminars on how to recognize fraud and build a fraud-fighting toolkit. Discussions will include counterfeit currency detection, protecting yourself and your organization from identity theft and credit card fraud, recognizing and dealing with fraud and why money-laundering poses a risk to organizations. Workshop presenters include two forensic accountants with a combined total of 55 years policing and forensic accounting experience, a Bank of Canada senior currency analyst, RCMP commercial crimes investigators and former MP Roy Cullen, one of the architects of Canada?s anti-money laundering legislation. read more
