Lead paint isn't just a problem in Petersburg and new investors are finding out a fresh coat of paint won't fix the problem and even covering it with drywall, the lead dust can still find a way into a child's mouth. Between 1950 and 1978 lead paint was phased out but decades later the lead dust can lead to health problems. Kay Rankin with the Crater Health District says, “The highest risk group is young children because they have a lot more of that hand to mouth activity, where their fingers are in there mouth.
