Advocates for International Development (A4ID) is to host a seminar for NGOs entitled "How Civil Society Can Influence International Investment Arbitration". International investment arbitration tribunals have considered environmental regulations in California, land reform policies in Zimbabwe, emergency currency controls in Argentina and the Black Economic Empowerment laws of South Africa. In this context, A4ID is developing a programme to assist civil society organisations wishing to learn more about investment treaty law and receive pro bono advice in relation to investment agreement disputes.
