Romania should lower its stake in two nuclear reactor projects at its power plant in Cernavoda to encourage private investors and make the sector more competitive, the economy minister said on Thursday. The European Union state has a 51 percent stake in a deal to build two more reactors by around 2016 in a partnership with major power firms. His comments reflect the centrist coalition government's new drive to attract investors to its cash-strapped power production sector by listing minority stakes and striking public-private partnerships to build new generation facilities. A special task force – whose work will be co-funded from private and public sources – to determine the aggregate demand for goods and services in the tourist industry has been created by Government. State news agency, JIS, reports that the task force includes a mix of public and private-sector representatives such as billionaire investor Michael Lee-Chin; group chief operating officer at GraceKennedy, Don Wehby; Derrick Deslandes, a consultant in the Ministry of Agriculture; president of the Jamaica Manufacturers’ Association, Omar Azan; general manager of Jamaica National Building Society Earl Jarrett; head of the Statistical Institute of Jamaica, Dr Sonia Jackson; president of the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association Wayne Cummings. The two sectors have been making efforts over the past decade to expand business partnerships for the supply of produce to the mostly import-dependent hotels that have traditionally bought from overseas markets because of, they say, greater surety of volume supplies and more variety. Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett, who made the announcement on April 22 in Montego Bay at a forum organised by the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ), said the task force would focus its work on overseeing research, to be done over a six-month period, and assessing the linkages between tourism and the different areas of the economy and determining how they can be improved. Lacy introduced Miller to yet another investment bank, the First International Bank Restoration Project of Granada. In 2005, just a few short weeks before Miller was arrested by federal authorities in North Platte, a man named Marcus Roehmer from Arizona telephoned Lacy and told him to make sure that Miller’s computer hard-drive and any other paper record files were erased. Miller discovered, after Lacy left his residence, that Lacy erased certain Lincoln bank records, e-mails and fax files from Miller’s computer hard-drive. read more

According to court documents and evidence at trial, Titus was a lawyer practicing in Virginia who also conducted investment seminars focusing primarily on real estate and estate planning. Titus approached clients or seminar participants and induced them into investing money with him to purchase and rehabilitate real estate, promising to return the money at a later date with a high rate of interest. Instead of using the funds as promised, Titus directed the investment income toward paying business or personal expenses, backfill investment losses, and at times to make token payments or repay previous investors. In addition, Titus misappropriated funds given to him by elderly or incapacitated clients who provided him with income intended to be held in trust and took steps to conceal those uses from those who inquired about the management of the trust. Trial evidence showed that Titus failed to make payments for the trust clients? basic medical and housing needs. Titus engaged in a similar scheme to defraud involving real estate closing funds he held in trust. read more

Strange as it may seem, it’s been documented and published in the North Carolina Medical Journal that death rates decline and healthy living habits increase when the economy is rough. Shares of Vitamin Shoppe hit the market in late October at $17 a share and have traded higher since, closing yesterday at $21. The thing that makes me question Vitamin Shoppe at these levels is the rich forward PE of 78, decreasing revenues in each of the last four quarters, and the fact that analysts are only looking for 10% revenue growth in the next two years.
