Crooks Are After Your Retirement Plan – CBS MoneyWatch.com (blog)- Investor Seminar News

Sunday 31 January 2010 @ 11:05 pm

But selling annuities on retirement money is a great deal for an insurance agent because he or she earns a commission that often amounts to 5% to 7% of your assets. If you think universal life insurance is complicated now, just wait until you see what is being marketed to insurance agents this year from the life insurance companies. Because a self-insuring individual has to be concerned with all possible life expectancies, self-insuring for cash flow typically costs 25-40% more than an income annuity even with the insurance carrier’s costs and expenses factored in, largely on account of the benefits of risk pooling. Indeed, many who didn’t purchase an income annuity and funded cash flow needs out of their portfolios (even those in low cost index funds who funded cash flow at a “conservative” withdrawal rate of 4%), have had to don blue vests and become greeters at WalMart. Moreover, as people near retirement, preserving capital typically becomes more important than growing capital, making a vehicle providing principal protection (like a fixed or fixed index deferred annuity) a good alternative. Bond funds have lower volatilities than stock funds, but they don’t provide principal protection, which is vital to securing the typical retirement plan in the years immediately before and after retirement. read more

After building a sales empire, mostly on wealth-building seminars and software, Winter Park entrepreneur Laurence J. After building a $256 million sales empire, mostly on wealth-building seminars and software, Winter Park entrepreneur Laurence J. He spoke recently with Sentinel staff writer Richard Burnett about the events that led to the Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization of his primary company, Orlando-based Dynetech Corp. The training-and-development side [seminars] represented 47 percent of sales; the technology side [Web sites and online-subscription services] was about 30 percent; and the rest of our businesses — media, marketing, advertising, which includes informercial services — totaled 23 percent of revenue. We sent all our stuff to Texas and didn’t hear a thing until we were slapped with not only the litigation but with a levy that cut off access to our funds, at a time when we were very financially extended. From the time I filed Chapter 11, I haven’t gotten a dime and I am not planning to get anything until I get myself out of Chapter 11. read more

Tuesday 26 January 2010 @ 8:36 pm

Some companies sell houses to other bulk buyers as quickly as possible, sometimes the same day they acquire them, making a couple thousand dollars per house, simply by shuffling paper. He and other Canadians bought into the program last year, picking up some houses in Stark County in the process, through Canada’s Freedom Investment Club. Go Invest didn’t sell houses directly to Canadian investors. Go Invest and Mohawk even shared a business address on North Washington Boulevard in North Ogden, Utah, though the two apparently are separate entities. read more

Is it time to take risk? – Redlands Daily Facts(Investor Seminar News)

Sunday 24 January 2010 @ 7:36 pm

I have a feeling the group that kept their cool had good advice from their investment advisor or were careful as to how they kept themselves informed about the crisis. Other investors who tried to play it safe by selling out of the stock market would have needed to be very savvy to buy back in at the right time, to beat the performance of those who did not sell. Lately, it seems like I hear interest in taking more risk in the stock market and/or real estate market. This latter group of future millionaires is not spending an anticipated inheritance, they do not believe their fortune will be made by the next big deal, and they do not abuse debt. If you have the itch to take a risk on a particular stock, real estate investment, precious metal or the like, here are a few considerations. read more
