Investor Seminar News – Cyprus: Invest now for your retirement property – Financial Mirror

Thursday 31 December 2009 @ 5:54 pm

Many employees, especially those that do not work in the government, semi governmental organisations and the banking sector, do not view the subject of pensions with the necessary gravity and in essence do not make any plans. It is common knowledge that the Social Insurance Fund itself with these new facts faces serious problems and it surely doesn’t provide pensions that will secure pensioners a decent retirement. As an alternative solution to the retirement funds offered by insurance companies, we propose investments in property, especially those that offer rental income that would supplement the social insurance pension payments. Every two years the rent increases by roughly 10% (recent regulation concerning rental properties has set a cap of 8% every two years whereas previously it was 14%). read more

Mida chairman Tan Sri Sulaiman Mahbob giving a speech at the business seminar in Los Angeles on Dec 10. Arham, who completes a year at the New York office since his arrival at the start of 2009, said that although public investments in the United States had increased, the private sector was cautious with respect to investments. Arham, who was recently in California to assist in the visit of a Mida delegation from Malaysia, led by its chairman Tan Sri Dr Sulaiman Mahbob, was “impressed” by the “keen interest” shown by participants at two business seminars organised for the visiting delegation in Los Angeles and San Francisco. 'Simplicity, reduced risk factor add to ETF lustre' – Gulf Times- Topic: Investor Seminar News

Saturday 26 December 2009 @ 1:02 pm

An ETF is an investment vehicle which is constructed like a mutual fund but trades like an individual security on a stock exchange. The ETF units can be created or redeemed by authorised participants as required and as ETFs are listed on stock exchanges just like a share, they can be traded whenever the exchange is open,? iShares (part of BlackRock; formerly Barclays Global Investment), vice- president Robert Broadwell, said during an educational seminar held yesterday. Instead, the investor is given exposure to whichever companies make up the index that the ETF is tracking, Broadwell said. GCC-based investment professionals are using ETFs in multiple ways, despite a lack of regulatory framework or local bourses pushing for ETFs to be. The result is a blend of active and passive management that can be tailored to best fit an optimal asset allocation and a client?s risk profile. GCC based professional investors are also significant users of ETFs for tactical trading strategies, which typically include specific sector, single country or emerging market ETFs,? Broadwell said. read more
