Mumbai, Sep 18, 2008 (Asia Pulse Data Source via COMTEX) — NXSC | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating — National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) plans to conduct a series of investor depository meets in the city from September 20 to 28. The seminars, aimed at spreading awareness about the depository process and other benefits of depository system, will be held in four centres in Mumbai, NSDL said in a release here today. These seminars will provide opportunity to investors to interact directly with NSDL as well as its depository participants, NSDL said. Senior officials from NSDL will address investor queries on various related issues and feedback will be solicited, the statement said. NSDL services more than 95 lakh investors through its DPs from over 7,800 locations across 860 cities/towns across the country. NSDL holds securities valued at more than USD 880-billion in dematerialised form. read more

TOPEKA – A speaker being hosted by the state’s largest business group expressed skepticism Monday that man-made carbon dioxide emissions are causing global warming. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change found last year that human activity was causing global warming and that harm from it could be blunted by prompt action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuels. Hansen, considered one of the world’s leading climate scientists, is giving a similar talk at the Kansas Wind & Renewable Energy Conference in Topeka today. One of the first researchers to help raise awareness about global warming in the 1980s, Hansen has accused the Bush administration of trying to silence him and stifle public discussion about the need to reduce carbon emissions. Kansas Chamber officials said their forum was sparked by an energy and environmental debate earlier this year surrounding a proposal for two new coal plants in southwest Kansas. Kathleen Sebelius’ administration denied two air-quality permits last year for Hays-based Sunflower Electric’s project, citing concerns that the plants’ CO2 emissions would contribute to global warming. read more

LONDON (Reuters) – Investors are still positive on the outlook for commodities but after the collapse of U. O’Connor works with asset allocation of the Irish National Pensions Reserve Fund, the 35th largest pension entity in Europe which manages around 20 billion euros. Investors were becoming more diversified and more sophisticated in their investment approach to commodities, bankers said. Within the commodities sphere, sugar, carbon and Baltic dry freight were highlighted as Morgan Stanley’s favourites. But with large investment banks struggling or even filing for bankruptcy protection, as in the case of Lehman on Monday, structured products were seen less safe than other investment vehicles such as Exchange Traded Funds (ETF’s) or mutual funds. read more

Many of the German companies operating in Sri Lanka are global leaders in their field and investment areas, which include apparel, hosiery knitwear, surf sails, textiles, electronic products, light/heavy engineering, rubber based products such as tyres and automobile spare parts, coir products, wooden/soft toys, chemicals, dyes, gems and jewellery, ceramics, tourism and recreational projects. German companies setting up operation in Sri Lanka for export to the Indian market can enjoy special tariff preferences for products manufactured in Sri Lanka under the Indo-Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement (ISLFTA). The investment promotion mission was supported by the Chambers of Commerce in Frankfurt, Munich and the German Pacific Business Association (OAV) as well as the Sri Lankan Consulate General in Frankfurt and the Sri Lankan Honourary Consulate in Munich. Meanwhile, on a directive of Foreign Minister, Rohitha Bogollagama, the Commercial Section of the Sri Lankan Embassy in Berlin has been re-located to the Consulate General in Frankfurt, the financial and economic hub of Germany, in order to strengthen Sri Lanka’s investment promotion drive and seek more opportunities for Sri Lankan exporters in the lucrative German market. read more
